Over time wood fires wear out components, "important components"

You can't just install a wood fire and not think about its maintanance.

To perform like a new fire your fire needs to be inspected on a regular basis and any worn components need to be replaced. Running a wood fire without an intact top baffle is dangerous and costley on fuel (wood).

You should have your fire inspected & the flue cleaned on an annual basis.
